With the project Abhivyakti, Vriddhikar is trying to raise public awareness on the social issues and possible solutions which can only be effectively done with the combined effect of the people. Raising public awareness occurs when a significant proportion of society agrees that a social issue is of great importance to all citizens. It is explaining issues and spreading knowledge to people so that they can make their own decisions. Public awareness involves widespread understanding and acknowledgement of the issues on a societal level and self-awareness, which occurs when individuals understand how the issue affects them personally. Public awareness can be done in different ways. It can be done through specific planned events, theatres, poster campaigns, websites, documentaries, newspaper articles, social science research, to have an effect on knowledge, attitudes and behaviour in schools and workplaces – any publicly available medium. It can be short-term or a well-coordinated long-term campaign which can raise awareness among the people. In order to work together, the public needs to have a common understanding, believe and share values.
